2xrip Maryland Olympic Duathlon

2xrip Maryland Olympic Duathlon

Men's Elite Podium

Pat, Dan, Lance, and I after race
This was the 2nd year for this Duathlon.  Last year I was able to win the overall in 1hr 45 minutes.  This year I really pumped as  Lucas(who beat me at Long Course Duathlon Nationals) along with everyone from last year.

Race set up:  Drank one bottle of Cera Sport Cherry which was perfect for my hydration during the bike.  This year my plan was to really PUSH the bike course knowing Lucas could bike well.  Last year I did not push the bike as hard and was concentrating on the run more.

Race:

First run(2 miles):  I was third and came into the transition in about 11 minutes.  Lucas was right behind me with Dan(AFC) in 2nd.  This was just about where I wanted to be.  Felt great and did not push too hard.  Heart rate was about 175ish the whole time.

Bike(26 miles):  This is where I thought the race would be won and it turned out exactly how I hoped.  I pushed very hard, even at times saw 188 on my heart rate.  I immediately passed Dan and Virginia Tech guy.  I continued to push on as I passed them and never let up on the pedals even on the flats.  One the first loop I could still see Lucas close by, but by the time the second loop came I could not see him in sight anymore but continued to push as hard as I could.  Came into the transition feeling good and at about two chomp packs during the bike leg.
Bike Strava segment  About 25.5 MPH avg!

2nd run(4 miles):  Felt good but was just staying relaxed as I knew it was my race to lose now.  It was fun having Suzy biking in front of me so I was not completely by myself.  I saw Pat/Lance when I was out on the run and saw they were in about 3/4th place so I was really excited to see that.  At the turn around after I came up the hill I saw Lucas and we high fived.  Very nice competitor and was excited to have him there racing with us.

Overall I finished about 3 minutes faster then last year.  I believe all of that was made up on the bike.  I may have been about 5 minutes faster on the bike this year from last year!  Great day all around!  Best part I was able to talk to a grandmother who has a grand children that just got diagnosed with diabetes and I was able to talk to her all about diabetes!  A huge thanks to Danny and Suzy Serpico from 2xrip as they put on a AWESOME race!
